Reporting to the Owner/CEO of a family owned company that manufactures hot runner controllers for the plastic injection molding industry after years of declining and stagnant sales, I was hired to bring sales level back, improve relationship with a national independent sales representative network and bring a change to the sales approach. 

 

During the first nine months, sales grow by 35%-40% percent, the company was on track to meet its annual sales goal/target and relations with rep groups improved greatly.  I realized early on for many years the company was product driven instead of value driven.  Once I started to change the direction to a value proposition that addressed the “pain” points of its prospects, sales momentum started to pick up.         

 

A contributing factor to the increase in sales was working in the “front line” with the national network of 20 independent reps. Requiring extensive traveling as the "subject matter expert" and to close sales was a key success factor.  Another contributing factor, reducing the RFP process by as much as 45%.  

 

During that same time I signed several distribution contracts for a new diagnostic tool that will generate over $500k annually in new revenues.

I had responsibility  for an international team of telemarketers, business development, marketing and account executives . During this time, the company grew by double-digits four consecutive years in a roll from $0 - $3 million while providing impressive results for its clients.  The President called George a "rain maker" with the CEO calling him a "pit bull" for his tenacity and determination. 

 

Seeing the need to expand the client portfolio from industrial manufacturing, I sold the first company Lean Healthcare project at a hospital outside of Melbourne Australia.  That project resulted in over $2 million (AUD) savings for the hospital and helped reduced patient wait time by 52%.  Leveraging the success of this project into a case study led to additional opportunities using the Lean Manufacturing approach in healthcare.

After seeing the need to help reduce healthcare cost, I created Integrated Delivery System (IDS) for hospitals, physicians, managed care, sub acute/LTC organizations.  The mission of the company was to "bridge" the continuum of healthcare disciples for a common cause....reduce hospital length of stays (LOS) by specific DRG's.  Under some DRG's the hospital LOS was reduced by one day by moving patients to either home care, subacute or long-term care.

An opportunity presented itself to expand my healthcare experience in response to a demand for reducing hospital length-of-stays in key DRG's by looking to long-term care nursing facilities for placement.  Not all patients qualified for home care but, also did not need an expensive hospital stay.  So working with the local skilled nursing facility a subacute unit was created and developed to take on some of these patients. 

 

My role was to establish this newly created subacute unit for local nursing facilities with the local hospitals, physicians and community.  At the time considered “ground breaking”.      

 

Pharmacy Corporation of America was a subsidiary of the largest nursing home company in the US...Beverly Enterprises.

It all started here!  Than CEO, Charlie Laverty and his management team took a big chance on guy with "fire" in eyes, "true grit" and more confidence than experience.  With no sales experience whatsoever, Charlie moved George and his young family to Miami with the goal of growing sales of home infusion services to hospitals, physicians and home health agencies in the Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach Florida for a relatively new Curaflex branch.  The pressure was on!  This became my first "King Saul/David" moment.
